Managing Successful Projects:An Introduction

Part of the problems facing this country is how to manage projects successfully. The problem is not that we don’t have ideas, turning them into meaningful ventures through project implementation has really been the challenge.

The history of governance in Nigeria has also shown that successive government came into power to correct the supposed wrongs of the previous one. They end up making the same mistake, fighting and trying so hard to justify their relevance. I wouldn’t want to sound political but I still think the buck stops at the desk of our political elites in this regard. It is also the same feeling in the corporate world where a lot of assumptions were made regarding project management.

Why do Projects Fail?

Projects fail not because the Project team did not take care of the big picture, they do because the people concerned failed to do little things right. The failure has a ripple effect on all stakeholders with energy dissipated, money spent and resources wasted without any meaningful impact.
Projects also fail because management failed to achieve a balance between business change and business as usual.
