Managing Successful Projects: The Voters Registration

Each time the voters registration exercise is implemented, one expects INEC and other stakeholders to provide credible database of voters. What usually come out is a data repository with phony voters details that exposed how unprofessional some people can be when handling projects of that magnitude.
The result as we all witnessed is a series of election disputes that lingered for years even up to the expiration of disputed tenures. It is important to say that correctness of data in IT Service Management ensures that any information supplied satisfies information security requirements.

It is a welcome development that INEC has dropped the idea of using the database presented by SAGEM(the company implemented National I.D Card Project) for obvious reasons. The question that comes to mind is have we learned from past experience? Did INEC carry relevant stakeholders along while making decisions that impact Infrastructure and Software?

It is on record that neither CPN(Computer Professionals Nigeria) nor NCS(Nigeria Computer Society) was carried along. Four companies were chosen for the project and only one is a Nigerian company. We have indigenous software companies and OEMs(Original Equipment Manufacturers) that have implemented similar projects. There is even an unconfirmed report that NIGCOMSAT have a working solution for voters registration. No nation can succeed without giving her local contents the much needed chance to thrive. It's never too late to get things right.
